Maximizing Organizational Impact: Lumanity Boosts Manager & Team Capacity

Company: Lumanity

Function: Research Services

Industry: Healthcare Software

TL;DR: Lumanity recognized the critical role of managers in unlocking organizational capacity. Partnering with LifeLabs Learning, the talent-first company embraced bespoke Manager CORE training, focusing on essential skills for leaders. The results were remarkable — enhanced manager effectiveness, elevated employee engagement, and a shared language that enriched the organization's conversational capacity.

The situation

Lumanity understood its true value lies in empowering its people to contribute more. The company recognized that investing in talent, especially managers, was vital to enhance its employee capacity. It sought a training approach that addressed the company’s unique needs and challenges to achieve this goal.

If you think about how organizations add value, they add value by what people can contribute, and if you can help employees contribute just a little bit more, you can help out that employee, but if you can help every employee contribute a little bit more, you can help out the organization.

The solution

To optimize team performance, Lumanity prioritized manager skill building. It partnered with LifeLabs Learning to implement a tailored Manager CORE program targeting a select set of leadership skills pivotal for amplifying employee contributions. The program honed in on essential skills such as feedback delivery, coaching strategies, productivity enhancement, and conducting effective one-on-one meetings. This targeted approach allowed managers to focus on areas of improvement, unlocking their potential and creating valuable space for their teams to thrive.

The way the training is set up is it’s very accessible and where the managers are weakest, they now have an accessible tool that they can use. While the syllabus might look standard, it becomes very bespoke for the learner.

The key results

Over 34 cohorts completed the LifeLabs training program, totaling more than 170 two-hour workshops! The outcomes were notable:

Increased Manager Effectiveness

LifeLabs's custom training program empowered Lumanity's managers to understand their crucial role in driving the organization’s progress. Equipped with practical leadership skills and the ability to tackle challenges, managers experienced a significant improvement in effectiveness.

By investing in manager development you can increase your colleagues’ capacity and work capacity just by increasing the skills of the manager. If you can help that point of leverage in every point of the organization, you have a pretty powerful effect.
— Jordan Cohen, Chief People Officer

Improved Employee Engagement

LifeLabs's manager training helped Lumanity create a culture of enhanced employee engagement across the entire organization. As a result, the company’s employee engagement surveys, which assess aspects like feedback frequency and communication effectiveness between managers and employees, showed notable improvement post-training.

  • At a micro level, individual employees experienced a greater sense of being valued, heard, and cared for, driving metrics up.

  • At a macro level, overall employee engagement scores rose due to the training.

Enhanced Conversational Capacity

Beyond training and skill development, Lumanity experienced a shift in employee language with a new, shared vocabulary around key behaviors, such as feedback. This shared language increased managerial capability, improved processes, and expanded the conversational capacity of the organization.

In Summary

LifeLabs Learning's Manager CORE training catalyzed Lumanity’s organizational growth. By investing in its managers and fostering a language of feedback, the company unlocked the potential of its people, making strides toward achieving its mission of improving patient health.
